“Hey there,” Zia whispered.

It felt amazing to see a honeybee this close. Her colours were bright and vivid, but her eyes were heavy, her wings fragile and waterlogged.

“Can you hear us?” asked Katy gently.

The bee tried to raise her head, then lay back down, faint and exhausted. “I recognise you,” she whispered, glancing at Thunder hiding behind Katy’s legs. “I didn’t mean for you to get stuck to my pollen sac. I hope you’re not hurt.”

Thunder smiled and shook his head, then came and rested his paw softly between her eyes.

“C-can you tell us what’s making you dizzy?” Luca asked.
